The Bluebird girls played at Canton on Tuesday night and earned another victory. The scores at the quarters were Goessel leading 9-9, 25-16, 41-26, 43-35. The Eagles stayed with the Bluebirds with good passing and strong rebounding, but Goessel took advantage of some lazy passes in the second quarter and Darla Funk, Lindsey Unruh and Melinda Stucky all scored on easy lay-ups to take a nine point lead into the locker room.
Goessel's 15 point third quarter lead slowly melted as the Eagles played aggressive defense, but Goessel held on to win their fifth league game.
Stucky led the scoring with 15, Tara Goerzen hit 12, Darla Funk nine, Lindsey Unruh four, and Shannon Schmidt three.
On Friday, Stucky again led the Bluebirds in scoring at Trinity with 18 points but the Celtics slipped away from Goessel. With less than two minutes to play in the third quarter, a Tara Goerzen three pointer cut Trinity's lead to 25-29.
But Trinity played for high percentage shots and converted four free throws in the last part of the game to hand Goessel their sixth league loss by a final score of 45-37.
Other individual scorers were Goerzen nine, Funk six, Katie Schroeder two, and Lindsey Unruh two.
Goessel's homecoming will be Friday with Pretty Prairie and then the Bluebirds finish the regular season with two more home games on Tuesday and Friday of next week with Sedgwick and Ell Saline, respectively.
