GJHS boys demolish Central Christian
The Goessel Junior High boys' basketball team hosted Central Christian last Thursday.
In the A-team game, Goessel defeated Central Christian 43-18.
Leading scorers were Justin Fensky with 11 points and Tyler Schroeder with 10.
Other scorers were Brady Peters with seven points, Nate Holmes with six, Evan Janzen, Chad Schrag, Jared Unrau, and Travis Buller with two each, and Kyle Unruh with one.
"We got off to a slow start in the first half as we couldn't connect on our outside shots," Head Coach Dale Wiens said. "Fortunately, our shooting percentage greatly increased in the second half."
Schroeder and Fensky led in rebounding with nine and seven, respectively.
"I like the way our team chemistry is developing as several seventh grade players are now joining the A-team," Wiens said. "If we continue on our path of playing together as a team, we will have a good chance to win many more games."
The team record is now 8-1.
In the B-team game, Goessel defeated Central Christian 51-18.
"Great pressure on the ball and execution on the offensive end led to the big victory over Central Christian," Coach Curtis Guhr said.
Leading in scoring for the Bluebirds was Holmes with 16 points.
Other scorers were Brett Goerzen with eight points, Nathan Amstutz and Buller with six points, Sheldon Goerzen and Jordan Voth with four each, Fast with three, Janzen, and Hiebert with two each. Leading in rebounds were Amstutz with four and Buller with three.
The team's record is now 9-0.
Up next for the Bluebirds is Burrton on Jan. 24 at Burrton.
