Burrton played host to the Goessel Bluebirds Jan. 24 and defended their court from start to finish, defeating Goessel 33-26.

"We just couldn't seem to get anything going in the first half and really only played one quarter very well," said Coach Dailey.

Jenny Weixelman tossed in seven points, Jennifer Schmidt five, and Allison Banman added four to lead Goessel scorers.

The B team continued to cruise through their season beating Burrton 24-15 and remaining undefeated at 10-0. Kory Hiebert led scorers with 10 points and pulled down several rebounds. Robin Bartel stepped up in the effort with lots of hustle, several boards, and three points. Others scoring were Tricia Fensky, Brandi Raymond, Brittany Duerksen, Megan Wedel, and Kylee Nikkel all with two points each and Samantha Campbell with one point.

The Bluebirds won two games against the Cougars of Central Christian on Jan. 17. The B team defeated Central 24-4. Eight players scored for the Bluebirds. Megan Wedel, Jenny Krehbiel, Katie Ross, and Jane Woodfield combined for 13 steals in this shortened game. Brittany Duerksen and Woodfield each pulled five rebounds.

The late game opened with Goessel on fire scoring 19 points in the early quarter. "From that point on, the game was in check and we just worked on various parts of our own game," said Coach Dailey.

The final score was 39-18. Eight of the 12 players scored with Jennifer Schmidt leading all scorers with 10 points. Jenny Weixelman added seven, Allison Banman and Brittany Voth added six each, Courtney Berkholz four, Tricia Fensky three, Sarah Unruh two and Kara Klassen one. Kory Hiebert and Courtney Berkholz each had seven rebounds.

As a team, the Bluebirds shot 31 percent from the field, grabbed 38 rebounds (20 offensive), stole the ball 15 times, and only turned it over 16 times, a season low.

"This game helped to showcase the abilities of all these kids. We can play ball with any team, and our bench strength or depth is a big factor that we are just starting to tap into."

The Inman Braves were no match for the bluebirds who swept all three games on Jan. 10. Goessel won the C game 12-3 with Robin Bartel scoring a game high six points. Also scoring were Megan Wedel, Katie Ross, and Janae Woodfield with two each. The team is 5-1 for the year.

The B team hit the floor ready for action as they dominated Inman 32-15. Leading the way was Courtney Berkholz with 12 points, Britanny Dirksen with 10, Kory Hiebert with six, Caitlin Goertzen and Brandi Raymond with two each.

The final game was much closer and provided great entertainment for the fans. Goessel was victorious in the end with a 33-30 win at home.

"Some of the younger players really played well and helped seal this victory for us," Coach Dailey said.

Standouts for the night were Jennifer Schmidt who scored 11 points and had as many rebounds, Jenny Weixelman added seven points, and Allison Banman and Linessa Duerksen each had four points.

"This was a great time for our bench to step up and become more effective help, especially as we make the stretch toward the league tournament."

The Bluebirds hosted Trinity Jan. 31, traveled to Remington on Feb. 4, and will begin the Heart of America league tournament on Feb. 9 in Moundridge.
