Gladys Thiessen

Gladys D. Thiessen, Hillsboro, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Parkside Homes in Hillsboro. She was 79.

Born in Souderton, Penn., on Dec. 22, 1923, she was the daughter of Clarence Derstine and Mamie Histand Derstine. She was an elementary school teacher and a member of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

On Aug. 20, 1944, she married Emil A. Thiessen in Fountainville, Penn. He survives.

Other survivors include son, Lonnie and wife Barbara Thiessen of Wichita; daughter, Jonelle Barkyoumb and husband Steve of Madison, Wisc.; five grandchildren; brothers, Norman Derstine of Harrisonburg, Va., and Kermit Derstine of Denver; sister, Beulah Fulmer of Lititz, Penn.; stepmother, Esther Myers Derstine of Doylestown, Penn.; step-sisters, Lois and Fridea Myers, both of Doylestown, Penn.; and a stepbrother, Gerald Myers of Florida.

Services were held Monday at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church with Pastor Dave Plett conducting the service. Burial was at the Hillsboro M.B. Cemetery.

Memorial funds may be given to the Emil A. and Gladys Thiessen Scholarship Fund at Tabor College.
