Glaser wins free-throw contest championship

The Knights of Columbus state free-throw championship was held Sunday in Salina at Sacred Heart Junior-Senior High School. Boys and girls 10 to 14 from six regions in Kansas competed in their respective age groups.

Clint Glaser, son of Curt and Joni Glaser of Ellsworth, won the 11-year-old boys' competition. To qualify for state championship competition Clint had previously won the local competition by making 15 of 15 free throws, the district competition with 24 of 25 free throws, and regional competition with 24 of 25 free throws.

In state competition he missed two, sinking 23 of 25 for the first-place finish.

Clint received a trophy and a leather basketball for placing at the top of his bracket.

Clint is the grandson of Graeme and Diane Glaser of Peabody. Together with his maternal grandparents, Wendell and Dixie Newell of Newton, they traveled to Salina to join Clint's parents and brother Grant to watch the competition and cheer him on.

The winners in each division will be sent to Knights of Columbus Supreme Office in New Haven, Conn., to be entered in the international contest.
