Goal-getters meet

The Goessel Goal Getters 4-H Club welcomed three guests from the Peabody Achiever 4-H Club to evaluate their model meeting on March 3, 2003, at the Goessel Elementary School.

Aileen Esau, community leader, commended the club for their participation at Marion County 4-H Day on Feb. 22.

The following members were selected to go on to regional competition on March 15 with their presentations: Scott Ferguson and Matt Tippin, illustrated talk; Matt Tippin, piano solo alternate; Evan Esau, public speaking; Jennifer Schmidt, flute solo, dance alternate; Anthony Esau, illustrated talk; Derek Kruger, project talk; D'Ambra Kruger, project talk, vocal solo; Kristin Unruh, piano solo; J.D. Tippin, guitar solo; Cameron Stultz, saxophone solo; Veronica Powers, flute solo, goat project, play; Chad Wedel, illustrated talk alternate; Kaleb Dailey, project talk alternate; and Alex Goossen, illustrated talk alternate.

The 4-H families were asked to join in a "4-H Is Calling" project to recognize area businesses and invite their support of 4-H programs and youth.

Members voted to give Scott Ferguson $100 toward his trip to Citizenship Focus in Washington, D.C., this summer.

The club split into two groups for the program. Kent Duerksen led the junior group in singing, "Home on the Range." Adam Meysing gave a project talk called "Blast Off" about the parts of a rocket, and Jacob Smucker shared some of his favorite books to read.

For the senior group, Kaitlin Dailey presented a cake decorating demonstration, Evan Esau spoke about the benefits of being in 4-H, and J.D. Tippin gave an illustrated talk on his shooting sports project called "Fire Power."

The evening ended with refreshments provided by the Kelly Booton, the Craig Schmidt, the Myron Regier, and Don Dailey families.
