Goering named executive editor of Topeka paper
Longtime Topeka Capital-Journal columnist Peter Goering has been named executive editor of the newspaper, publisher Mark Nusbaum announced Dec. 5. Goering will team with Wayne Stewart, who has been managing editor of the newspaper since February.
Goering, a Lehigh native and 1970 graduate of Kansas State University, has served in numerous capacities in the Topeka newsroom for more than 30 years, including a two-year stint as executive editor from 2000-2002 and a one-year stint as managing editor in 1994.
Goering, who has been lead columnist for the paper since 2002, will continue to write his column.
"I am thankful Pete is willing to return to the helm of the C-J news operation," said Nusbaum. "He brings substantial experience, stability, and a commitment to quality journalism. He has the respect of our news staff and our readers. And he cares very deeply about Topeka and northeast Kansas."
