Four boys from Goessel played Babe Ruth baseball in the 13-year-old division. Alex Drake, Adam Goering, Zach Frey and Garrett Hiebert joined nine boys from Moundridge. The team won the league competition with an overall record of 12-5.

Hiebert and Frey were selected from this group to play on the Mid-Kansas All Star team. The all-star team won all four games in district play and advanced to the state tournament in Mulvane.

Frey, a pitcher, went all seven innings in the second game at state and came away with a win and Most Valuable Player award for the game. When he was not pitching, he played third base.

Hiebert played solid defense at short stop and went four for four at the plate in one game at the state tournament and was also named MVP for game.

Matt Lichti from Moundridge was the coach during the season and also the skipper for the all-star team.

"Zach has a heart of gold, loves the game and will be able to play a variety of positions," said Lichti. "Garrett has a great glove and almost always gets the bat on the ball."

The all-star team lost in the first round at state, then won two games and came up short in their fourth game to finish in fourth place. They lost both games to an Ottawa team, but a team from Pittsburg won the tournament.
