Goessel barbecue concert is Tuesday
The Goessel music department will host its annual community barbecue and concert Tuesday at Goessel High School lunchroom and auditorium.
Serving will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the concert will begin at 6:45.
There is no charge for the event, but all donations go toward the travel fund for the high school band and choir. The fund is used to send the band and choir to out-of-state music festivals.
The menu will consist of pork burgers, baked beans, chips, and cookies. All items are donated by various businesses and community members.
The concert will showcase the highly regarded Goessel High School band and choir which will perform their 2006 state festival presentations.
Both the band and choir received all "superior" ratings at the KSHSAA State Large Group Festival at Bethany College, Lindsborg, earlier this spring.
Among the band's selections will be John Chance's "Incantation and Dance," Ricketts' arrangement of "Pirates of the Caribbean," and Rondo For Solo and Wind Band featuring Kyle Unruh on trumpet.
The choir will showcase Thompson's "Last Words of David," Stanford's "Beati Quorum Via," and Maddux's "O Sifuni Magu."
The fifth grade band, junior high band, junior high choir, high school men's chorus, high school women's chorus, and the Elbiata Singers also will be featured.
Bud Meisel is the band director. The choirs are under the direction of Greg Bontrager.
