Goessel barbecue is May 13 years ago
The Goessel High School music department will host its annual community barbecue and concert May 13 at the high school cafeteria and auditorium.
The barbecue will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by the concert at 6:45. There is no charge for the annual event, but all donations go toward the travel fund of the high school band and choir. The fund helps send the band and choir to out-of-state music festivals. All materials for the barbecue are donated by various businesses and community people in the Goessel area.
The concert will showcase the musicians of the Goessel music department. The high school band and choir will perform their 2008 state music festival selections. Both the band and choir received all "superior" ratings at the KSHSAA state large group festival held at Bethany College, Lindsborg, earlier this spring.
Among the band's selections will be music from the Walt Disney movie, "The Chronicles of Narnia," arranged by Paul Murtha, and a medley of well-known R&B tunes, "Blues Brothers Revue," arranged by Jay Bocook.
The choir will showcase Egil Hovland's "Saul," and the Shaker tune, "Ye Followers of the Lamb," by Edwin Ferguson. A special feature will be the combined high school and middle school choirs' performance of "Let Everything That Has Breath," by Jeffrey Ames.
Also featured on the concert will be the fifth grade band, middle school band, middle school choir, high school men's chorus, high school girls' chorus, and the Elbiata Singers.
