Illness set in for the Bluebird boys for the Tuesday game at Canton as one starter was unable to play and five other players were suffering from the crud that is going around.
Nick Peters was inserted into the starting lineup and contributed 10 first half points. Goessel struggled in the first quarter and scored only 10 points, but Canton Galva could only come up with four points.
Goessel led at the other breaks 29-22, 40-34, and a final score of 59-41.
The Bluebirds led 40-36 in the fourth quarter with 5:50 to play in the game. At that point the Bluebirds flew past the Eagles, outscoring them 19-5 to finish with an 18 point victory.
"Our bench was a huge factor tonight," said Coach Coup. Jeremy Voth led the Bluebird attack with 18 points, Kent Peters with 14 (all in the second half), Nick Peters with 10 (all in the first half), Ben Schmidt with seven, Jesse Goertzen with six, Aaron Stehman with two, and Josh Schmidt with two.
Against Trinity on Friday, the boys played well for 12 minutes, leading 27-25 halfway through the second quarter.
But the Celtics built a solid lead in the third quarter, and the Bluebirds trailed by 8-12 points for the last part of the game. The final score was a loss for Goessel 71-61.
Jeremy Voth scored 18, Jesse Goertzen 12, Ben Schmidt 12, Clinton Plenert six, Kent Peters six, Nick Peters three, Aaron Stehman three, and Josh Schmidt one.
The win at Canton snapped a three game losing streak for the boys, and they now have a 9-8 overall record, with 6-5 in the league.
