The Goessel High School boys' track and field team had a solid day Friday at the Madison regional, but came up six points shy of winning the meet.
The boys qualified for state in six events.
Craig Banman earned first place in three individual events: pole vault, 300-meter hurdles, and the 200m dash.
The 4x400m relay team also earned gold medals and will return to state.
Cameron Stultz earned fourth place in the 100m dash and Johnathan Berkholz gathered in a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash.
Only the top four finishers in each event will go to state and the Bluebirds had several athletes score points, but not qualify for state.
Travis Fensky earned a fifth-place in the 100m dash, Cameron Stultz was fifth in the 200m dash, Grady Stultz fifth in the 800m run, Weston Hiebert fifth in the 300m hurdles, and Anthony Esau fifth place in the long jump.
Evan Hiebert scored a point with a sixth-place finish in the high jump.
Last season the Bluebirds came in second as a team at state and the hope is that this year's team can be near the top with some of their best times and distances of the year.
