Five points separated second place from fourth April 1 at the boys' CKTL track meet in Goessel.
Halstead, the largest team at the meet, hauled in 150.5 points, while three teams fought for second place.
Fairfield finished with 76 points, Peabody 73, and Goessel 71.
An encouraging sign for this year's team was the points that were scored by newcomers to the track team.
Nineteen boys entered events for the Bluebirds and they scored points in 13 of them.
Craig Banman scored two firsts in the 100-meter dash and the 400m dash.
Weston Hiebert was the only other Bluebird to take gold in an individual event by winning the 300m hurdles.
Goessel was the smallest school at the meet, with hopes to pick up more points as the athletes refine their skills and improve their times.
