Goessel boys finish second in own track meet

On a beautiful spring day, Tuesday, Goessel was able to host its first track meet at home since 1989. The impressive facility sparkled with newness as five teams gathered in Goessel to compete on the new Chet Roberts Track.
The Goessel boys' team scored 92.5 points in their first meet of the young season. Justin Fensky was a triple winner in the 100 dash (11.9), long jump (19'6.5"), and triple jump (40'3").
Tyler Schroeder picked up points with a first place finish in shot put (43'1") and second place in discus (109'11"). Sheldon Goerzen finished first in the 300m hurdles (47.89) and fourth in pole vault (9'0"). Garrett Hiebert took first place in javelin (173'5"), fifth in triple jump (38'2.75") and fifth in 400m dash (56.15).
Brian Meeks finished second in javelin (135'8") and third in shot put (37'5"). Chad Schrag earned a second place in triple jump (38'9.5"). Evan Fast took home two fourth place finishes in high jump (5'6") and the 1600m run (5:23.90). Brett Goerzen scored points in three events: triple jump, fourth (38'7.25"), long jump, fourth (18'0.25") and a tie for fifth in pole vault (8'0").
The Goessel boys finished behind Halstead, but ahead of Peabody, Bluestem, and Fairfield.
The small Goessel girls' team finished fifth in their own meet on Tuesday. The 29 points that were scored came from the following individuals: Tricia Fensky: pole vault, first (6'6"), and long jump, first (13'5.75"); Kylee Nikkel: shot put, first (28'3.5") and discus, third (85'5"); Vivianna Chan: shot -put, fifth (24'1").
The team order of finish was Halstead, Peabody, Fairfield, Bluestem, and Goessel.
Goessel will compete Tuesday at Hesston and April 15 at Bennington.
