The Heart of America league team championship Friday came down to the last event at Goessel High School.
Remington led Goessel in the boys' division by one point going into the 4x400-meter relay. As the relay progressed, the two teams would exchange leads at various points, but were shoulder to shoulder for much of the four laps.
Remington was able to pull ahead of Goessel in the last 50 meters to win the team title by three points. Goessel boys scored many of their points in field events and Remington scored a slug of points in the running events.
In the girls' division three Bluebirds scored points. Kylee Nikkel threw 31 feet, nine inches in the shot put for second place. Tricia Fensky cleared 7-6 on the pole vault and Courtney Berkholz finished sixth in the 100m dash. The team finished ahead of Canton-Galva and Peabody.
Goessel will compete Friday at Madison against 1A schools at regionals. The top four places in each event will advance May 26-27 to the state competition at Wichita State University.
