The Goessel High School boys lost to Pretty Prairie on Homecoming night by a score of 66-51. Eight Goessel players got into the scoring column on senior night, as the benches were emptied near the end of the game.

Although Goessel led at the end of the first quarter, they trailed 29-33 at half-time and 38-49 at the end of the third quarter.

Pretty Prairie outscored the Bluebirds 14-3 in one stretch in the third quarter, and the Bluebirds shot a disappointing 50 percent on freethrows. A Jesse Goertzen three-pointer got Goessel within eight, 43-51, but that would be as close as the home team could get.

Scoring for the Bluebirds were Jeremy Voth with 14 points, Clinton Plenert with 12, Jesse Goertzen with 10, Kent Peters with seven, Ben Schmidt with four, Nick Peters with one, and Goessel's foreign exchange students scored, Jamal Adams with two and Daniel Silbereisen with one.

Tuesday, the Bluebirds had only 11 turnovers for the game as they played a quick Sedgwick team.

The scores at the quarters were 14-10, 24-23, 37-43 and a final of 58-56. A Nick Peters' three-pointer gave Goessel their biggest lead in the second half with a score of 33-27. But the Cardinals would take control of the game at that point and outscore the Bluebirds 16-4 to finish the third quarter.

Clinton Plenert tied the game with a 10-foot jumper and Kent Peters' freethrows gave the Bluebirds the lead for good with 1:51 to play.

Goessel made three of six freethrows in the last 40 seconds, and Sedgwick converted five of six to give the Bluebirds the victory by two points to finish the league season 10-9.

Jeremy Voth had a huge game with 25 points and seven rebounds. Clinton Plenert finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kent Peters added 12, Nick Peters five, Ben Schmidt one, and Jesse Goertzen with a huge freethrow with 4.1 seconds to end the game with one point.

Goessel will play Ell Saline Friday, but this will not count in the league standings. The Bluebirds boys will then be competing in the 1A regional tournament at home on Monday and then traveling to Junction City for the rest of the tournament.
