Jeremy Voth and Clinton Plenert received all-tournament team selections.

On Monday, the Bluebirds defeated Belle Plaine 74-44 (See details in the Jan. 17 issue of the Star-Journal)

Goessel faced Remington in the second round of the tournament and trailed at each of the quarter breaks 10-6, 29-16, 42-27, and 60-50.

The bright spot in the game was the surge the Bluebirds put on in the fourth quarter, trailing 48-29. They then outscored the Broncos 17-5 to get within seven points.

Remington recovered and defeated the Goessel team by 10 points.

Scoring for the Bluebirds were Voth with 21 points, Plenert with 15, Jesse Goertzen with eight, Kent Peters with four, and Josh Schmidt with two.

The consolation game took place against Rock Creek. The teams stayed close in scores for three quarters with the Mustangs leading at the end of three quarters 33-31.

But Goessel got it together, and six different players scored in the final quarter. Goessel managed to get a 10 point lead with three minutes to play, but Rock Creek battled back to trail 50-46.

A Goessel missed free throw allowed the Mustangs to narrow the gap even more, but the Bluebirds hit four of four free throws in the last 30 seconds to ice the victory 54-44.

Scoring for the team were Plenert with 15 points, Peters and Voth with 14 each, Aaron Stehman and Goertzen with four each, and Ben Schmidt with three.

Only the boys will play Burrton at home on Friday for another HOA contest.

Burrton and Goessel boys have the same 5-2 league record and are tied for third place in the league.
