Goessel city council approves raises

The Goessel City Council met Dec. 21 at the Goessel Civic Center Community Room.

The council unanimously approved the support agreement with Custom Micro Solutions for technical support and enhancements of the Government Suite Software at a cost of $711 per year.

The council unanimously approved having Stutzman Refuse Disposal haul the trash picked up in Goessel to Waste Connections in Wichita until further notice.

Arlen Goertzen, public works director, reported that he is getting an estimate for repairing the computer, the cell phone needs to be replaced, a fire hydrant at Main and Summit is being replaced, and a fence is being constructed on property beside the city shop. Goertzen also reported sending a bill the Goessel High School for 32 bags of patching material the city used to fix holes in front of the high school building.

Police Chief Rollin Schmidt reported issuing seven warnings and three notices to appear, serving two civil process papers, executing one search warrant, making two arrests, and assisting the sheriff's office with an eviction.

The council set the date for the employee appreciation banquet for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 19. Keith Banman will cater the meal. Anita Goertzen, city clerk, was presented a plaque from IIMC for earning the designation of certified municipal clerk.

The council unanimously passed Ordinance 178, approving amending the loan agreement with KDHE.

The council approved increasing the wages of the public works director, the city clerk and the police chief by 3 percent.

The council approved 4-1 making a $100 donation to the Newton Police Dog Fund.
