Goessel football season slips away

Goessel traveled to Hartford for the final district game, with a chance to advance to the Bi-District level if they could win by 10 points. A win would put them in a three-way tie for second place with Burlingame and Marais Des Cynes Valley.
When the team arrived at the field, it became obvious that the Hartford area had a lot more rain on Wednesday than the Goessel area. The field was sloppy and footing was a problem. Goessel was perched on a four-point lead (12-8) for much of the second half, but a win by less than 10 points would not advance the team to the next round of playoffs.
Since the running game was difficult, the Bluebirds tried to rely on the passing game. An interception late in the game led to a Hartford touchdown and the Bluebirds were unable to score again, ending the season with a loss 14-12.
Goessel ended the season with a 5-4 record. The Bluebirds probably had one of the toughest schedules in the state. Four of the teams Goessel played have qualified for the Bi District round of the eight man football playoffs. The Bluebirds defeated two of those teams.
