Goessel football wins second game

The Bluebird defense played extremely well again on Friday as they held Cedar Vale to only 75 yards of offense. Goessel scored eight touchdowns and never punted in a lopsided game.

Justin Fensky scored four TD's running and Ryan Janzen scored two TD's from passes thrown by Garrett Hiebert. Adam Goering added a touchdown in the third quarter and a 45-yard burst from Brett Goerzen brought the score to 55-6 and the game was called because of the 45 point rule. The Bluebirds amassed 391 yards of total offense.

Evan Esau, Fensky and Jake Unruh led the team on defense. At least 20 Goessel players got playing time in the contest as Goessel's coaches emptied the bench in the third quarter. The nearly three-hour ride home was almost pleasant after the Bluebirds begin the season 2-0 for the first time in many years.

"Everybody gets along real well," said Jake Unruh, "and that makes this season fun already."

Goessel will have a home game Friday with Argonia at 7 p.m.
