Goessel girls end season
After being one point down with 1:50 to play, the Goessel girls played tough defense and made their foul shots to achieve a 46-40 win over Burrton.
All of Goessel's seniors saw action in the first-round regional game, played Feb. 19, the last home game of the season, and four of them scored.
Senior Kory Hiebert led both teams with 18 points. Kylee Nikkel hit two points, Trenae Wilson added two, and Jennifer Raymond sank two points. Sophomore Rinda Duerksen hit 13 points, junior Katie Flaming four, freshmen Aspen Frey three, and Karis Janzen added two.
The win advanced the Bluebirds to the semi-final round of the regional tournament, against unbeaten host team, Olpe. The Eagles ended the Bluebirds' season, 67-24.
Scoring for the Bluebirds in the final game were: Frey six, Hiebert six, Duerksen four, Janzen four, Wilson two, and Raymond two.
Goessel's record this season was 9-13. The Bluebirds will lose the following six seniors to graduation: Kory Hiebert, Courtney Berkholz, Trenae Wilson, Caitlin Goertzen, Kylee Nikkel, and Brittany Dirksen.
