The Goessel Bluebirds will face the Broncos at Remington Friday. As always, the Bluebirds know Remington will be a tough game.
This is one of two 3A teams the Bluebirds face in the Heart of America League. The girls were 3-3 in the league and 6-8 overall before playing Tuesday at Moundridge.
The Bluebirds avenged an earlier loss to Peabody-Burns by defeating the Warriors 47-21 in the first round of the Eli J. Walter tournament at Berean Academy.
Goessel came out sharp for all quarters and held the Warriors to only two points in the first quarter. The Bluebirds took a 29-10 lead to the locker room at halftime and never were challenged the rest of the game.
Scoring for the Bluebirds: Rinda Duerksen 11, Kory Hiebert 10, Courtney Berkholz six, Karis Janzen four, Trenae Wilson four, Kylee Nikkel three, Aspen Frey three, Brittany Dirksen two, Caitlin Goertzen two, Katie Flaming one, and Kristin Unruh one.
For the fourth time this season, the Bluebirds lost to Berean Academy this past Thursday.
Berean jumped out to 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warrior defense allowed the Bluebirds only six points in the second half to win by a score of 52-22.
Only four Bluebirds scored points against the state-ranked team in 2A: Hiebert 11, Berkholz five, Wilson four, and Duerksen two.
Goessel lost 48-30 Saturday to the Cougars from Hutchinson Central Christian.
Still stinging from a loss to Goessel at the regional volleyball tournament, Christian came out with an explosive first quarter.
Goessel trailed 16-4 and then went into the halftime break behind by a score of 21-12.
Despite efforts to catch up, the deficit became larger and the final score recorded a loss for the Bluebirds, 48-30. Scoring in this game were: Berkholz nine, Frey eight, Hiebert five, Jennifer Raymond four, Flaming two, and Wilson two.
