The Goessel girls' varsity team made a run at Moundridge in the fourth quarter but lost 43-30 for their first game of the season.

"It showed that we were in our first game of the season. Our ball handling skills will improve as the season goes along," said Coach Holloway.

Goessel turned the ball over 25 times according to unofficial results. Goessel led 10-9 early in the second quarter, but then went scoreless while the Wildcats scored 18 straight points.

In the fourth quarter, trailing by 18 the Bluebirds went on an 8-1 run getting the score to 28-39, but the Wildcats finished the game with a few more points of their own. Kory Hiebert scored nine points from close range, Courtney Berkholz and Candice Bailey each had seven, Kara Klassen five, and Sarah Unruh scored two.

Hiebert, Berkholz, Felecia Goertzn and Bailey brought a lot of experience from last year. Trenae Wilson and Kara Klassen were the newcomers on the floor and picked up valuable playing time.

"We need to get our ball handlers to penetrate a little more and then see the open person. I have hopes that things will improve as the season goes on," said Holloway.
