Goessel girls nearly upset Moundridge

The Bluebird girls got behind early and then made a tremendous surge as the game came to an end, nearly upending the Moundridge girls in a make-up game.

Moundridge could only manage a five-point lead by half time. The Wildcats, who have dominated girls' action between the two schools for many years, still only led by five at the end of the third quarter. Goessel held a slim lead in the fourth quarter, but saw the Wildcats squeeze out a win by one point 51-50.

Two Bluebirds reached double digits in scoring as Kory Hiebert scored 18 and Courtney Berkholz added 10 points. Candice Bailey put in nine, Kara Klassen scored seven, Felicia Goertzen scored four, and Linessa Duerksen added two.

Goessel girls will compete at the Berean Tournament this week.
