Goessel girls season comes to an end
In the first round of regional play, the 1A Goessel girls toppled Hamilton (see story in last week's paper) 66-58. The victory earned for them a chance to play the number one seeded Olpe Eagles.
The Bluebirds could only muster seven points in the first quarter and trailed by nine at the end of the quarter. Goessel tallied 17 points in the second period but trailed 34-24 at the half.
Goessel outscored the Eagles by one in the third period, but the Eagles ended the game, making seven free throws in the fourth quarter, with a final score of 63-49.
Seniors Candice Bailey and Felicia Goertzen played in their final game of their high school careers. Bailey hit four three-pointers for 12 points, Courtney Berkholz led the Bluebirds in scoring with 14 and Korey Hiebert added 11. Kara Klassen scored six; Renee Fensky, three; Brittany Dirksen, two; and Trenae Wilson, one point.
Goessel finished the season 10-12 overall.
