Goessel High School girls picked up a league win against Inman Friday at homecoming.
Goessel led 16-11 at halftime and their defense only allowed Inman two points in the third quarter giving the Bluebirds a 15-point lead at the end of three periods.
Goessel won by a final score of 33-21.
Inman did not help their cause by missing 15 free throws.
"We got off to a quick start, and our defense played very well in the third quarter," said head coach Brian Holloway.
Scoring for the Bluebirds were Rinda Duerksen 15, Kory Hiebert 8, Courtney Berkholz 4, Jennifer Raymond, Aspen Frey, and Brittany Dirksen all with two points.
Although Goessel led after three quarters, 34-27, over the top-ranked Berean Warriors Tuesday, fourth-quarter turnovers allowed Berean to sneak away with a 46-40 win at Goessel.
"I think we had 38 turnovers in the game. That just doesn't work against a good team like Berean," said Holloway. Hiebert and Duerksen each had 13 points to lead the Bluebirds. Other scorers were Berkholz 8, and Trenae Wilson, Katie Flaming and Frey each had two points.
The Goessel girls are now 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the HOA league.
The girls look forward to a league match-up Friday in a home contest with Little River.
Coach Holloway knows this is a winnable game. "I'm sure Little River will try to attack our weaknesses, but their dominance is not what it has been in previous years," he said.
