Goessel High School golf coach Greg Bontrager was elated as his team posed for pictures May 19 after finishing in second place at the 1A state golf tournament.
"I am so thrilled that the four seniors have had such an incredible season," he said.
Goessel was first in the league tournament, first at regionals, and second at the state level.
Senior Cameron Voth shot an 85 on the tough Dodge City Country Club course in western Kansas and earned 11th place.
Also finishing in the top 20 were senior teammates Nathan Ensz and Derek Brown, each shooting an 88 and picking up 18th and 19th individual medals.
Sophomore Tyler Schmidt finished three strokes behind tied for 31st.
Jake Schrag, another senior for the Bluebirds, finished with a 96 and Hayden Goerzen came in with 101.
Voth, who has played this season with pain in his knee, has led the Bluebirds in the last two meets.
Ensz has been the leader on the team through several meets this year.
The order of finish among the Goessel team changes from week to week.
Goessel defeated Quivera Heights by one stroke at regionals a week before and it turned out that this time Quivera Heights won the state championship for the third year in a row.
Goessel's second-place finish, was nine strokes behind champion Quivera Heights, and seven strokes ahead of third place Greensburg.
