A cool day, Thursday, kept the runners from Goessel from getting fast times, but the Goessel boys' team finished behind 2A schools Trinity and Peabody and just beat Remington by one point.

Thirty-eight runners finished the course from seven league schools. Evan Fast finished 10th (18.25), Zach Plenert 11th (18:36), Kellen Jenkins 12th (18:43), and Brady Peters picked up the last medal with 15th place (19:02).

The two freshmen competing in the varsity race ran their fastest times of the season with Cameron Voth getting 31st (20:39) and Jake Schrag 37th (21:38).

In the league meet the top five runners scored points for the team and the sixth runner on each team would break a tie if necessary.

Janessa Wedel was the only girl running for the Bluebirds, and she missed a medal by one place, finishing 16th out of 31 runners.

Goessel will head for Lake Afton for the 1A regional cross country meet on Saturday. The girls will run at 2 p.m. and the boys race will be at 3 p.m.
