Goessel hosts top-ranked Claflin

After putting up a big score against a really bad team last week, the Goessel High School Bluebirds play their biggest game of the season at home Friday against top-ranked Claflin.

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Goessel had a chance to work on some plays and rest its starters against the Sunrise Academy Buffaloes. As it turned out, the starters really didn't need to make the trip to Wichita.

Inexplicably, both coaches agreed to throw the 45-point rule out the window prior to the game.

The result: Goesel 92, Sunrise 28.

Goessel purposely didn't score any points offensively the second half, but the defense still cashed in on five Buffalo mistakes.

But that was last week.

Nothing will be easy Friday, said Goessel coach Justin Coup.

"Claflin is a solid team," he said. "I don't know exactly what to expect. It could be a wild game."
