Goessel man hired to head county EMS
Marion County commissioners Monday hired Darryl Thiesen of Goessel as the new director of the county's Emergency Medical Service. He will start work here on or about Oct. 6.
He will be paid $28,000 per year. He is to receive an increase of $150 per month after one year of successful employment as EMS director. That will bring him to $29,800 per year.
He will be subject to documented reviews of his job progress and continuing education to fulfill the requirements of the position at three-, six-, nine- and 12-month intervals, commissioners said.
He is currently plant superintendent at Sun-Dor, a Newton woodworking plant.
Thiesen has been an emergency medical technician for 13 years and training officer for seven years at Goessel.
Commission Chairman Howard Collett said Thiesen needs instructional training so that he can instruct EMTs.
Commissioner Leroy Wetta said, "he's qualified."
JoAnn Knak, EMS director for the past 23 years, will retire Dec. 20, but will be taking four weeks of accumulated vacation time off between now and then, she said.
Commissioner Bob Hein will serve as the county's voting delegate at the Kansas Association of Counties November convention. Collett and Wetta will be the first and second alternates. All three plan to attend the meeting.
