Goessel netters win two at Tescott

The Goessel High School varsity volleyball team competed at the Tescott Invitational on Sept. 20.

Goessel placed fourth at the pool play tournament defeating Osborne and Wilson.

"We felt good about going in at seventh place and going out at fourth," head coach Sandy Banman said.

"We felt like we were right in every match we lost; they could have gone either way," she said. "It was good to play a whole day to get a lot of experience playing together."

In the first match of the day, Goessel lost to Bennington, 25-20, 25-17.

In their match against Osborne, Goessel won 25-16, 25-17.

They also defeated Wilson 25-16, 25-17.

Goessel advanced to the semi-finals and lost to Ell-Saline, 25-16, 25-24.

In the match for third place, Goessel came up short and was defeated by Elyria Christian, 25-21, 25-18.

The team hosted Trinity, Central Christian, and Canton-Galva on Tuesday.

The team's record is now 7-12 and in league 1-5.

Sept. 16 game

After the Sept. 16 game, Coach Banman was counting on the team to improve because of the valuable experience they gain each time they step on the court.

"We are really playing on a roller coaster right now," said coach Sandy Banman. "We had a great day Saturday at the tournament and were really flat last Tuesday."

In their only win of the day, the Bluebirds defeated Ell-Saline 23-25, 26-24, 16-14. Ashley Ensz had 10 kills and four blocks in the win. Brianna Unrau led the team with 14 digs.

Goessel lost to Burrton 15-14, 25-15 and to Moundridge 25-19, 25-20.

Goessel's season record is 7-12 and HOA league record 1-5.
