Goessel Public Library awards volunteers

As part of National Library Week (April 10-16), the Goessel Public Library plans to hold a Volunteer Recognition Day Friday, April 15, at the library.

Four volunteers will be recognized for donating over 20 hours of service to the library. They are Elaine Unruh, 22 hours; Joan Epp, 22 hours; Norma Duerksen, 32 hours; and Nancy Plenert, 38 hours. Rick Woelk, who completes other volunteer tasks, will also be recognized.

Goessel library's Tuesday Volunteer Staff Night is made possible by these and eight other people who staff the computer and check materials in and out, saving the library money and expanding its hours. The community of Goessel and citizens in the surrounding area then have better access to the 6,000-plus books, videos, and magazines as well as to the scanner, Laser Jet printer, three computers, and Zerox machine.

Volunteer award recipients have been asked by library director, Laura Dailey, what their favorite book is. Dailey is currently purchasing these books. A book plate will then be attached to those books commending the volunteer for his or her accomplishments.

Library staff will also be handing out magnets to the public with the library's hours, e-mail address, and phone number printed on them.

The Goessel Public Library is located at 101 S. Cedar. It is open Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday. from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.
