Goessel schools achieve standard of excellence
Goessel Junior/Senior High School has been recognized for having attained the Standard of Excellence on the 2004 statewide math assessments in grades 7 and 10. The school recently received certificates of achievement from the State Board of Education in recognition of its accomplishment.
Attaining the Standard of Excellence requires having a significant portion of the student body scoring at the advanced and exemplary levels. Standard of Excellence schools must also show evidence of moving students out of the lower performance levels on the state assessment. Statewide, 24-25 percent of schools reached the Standard of Excellence in Math at grade 7 and 10, according to the State Department of Education.
"Attaining the Standard of Excellence speaks highly of the efforts of the school staff to ensure all students are learning" said State Board of Education Chair, Janet Waugh. "This accomplishment is something in which the entire community can take pride."
These two classes will have a class party in February to celebrate this accomplishment. Individual students who reach proficient or above this spring on State Assessments will receive special rewards as well.
