Goessel student wins FFA state competition

Goessel senior, Josh Voth, entered the FFA competition at the State Fair in Hutchinson with his rebuilt and refinished tractor and secured Grand Champion honors. His 1947 Model C, Allis-Chalmers tractor glistened in its shiny orange coat of paint. Voth began his rebuilding project in September of 2002. Most of his rebuilding work was on the engine and he had to do little work with the transmission. This summer he sandblasted the old surface and painted it the Allis-Chalmers orange. There were three tractors at the FFA class and the top prize belongs to the Marion County native.

Voth will be joining teammates from last year Zane Unrau and Mark Voth along with Taylor Schmidt in the National Ag Tech Management Competition at the National FFA convention in late October. This four member team has qualified by getting first place at last year's state fair.

"The contest will be for two days and about four hours a day," said Voth. He explained that this competition is not engine troubleshooting but ag mechanics in general.

"There will be parts of the competition related to electrical, plumbing, concrete, welding, and parts identification," Voth explained. "We're not sure which parts will be in this year's competition." The national FFA convention is in Louisville, Kentucky.
