Goessel students recognized for academic achievements
Certificates were presented Tuesday to Goessel junior and senior high school students who made the first nine week's honor roll. One hundred and ten students were listed on the honor roll with 60 making the high honor roll (3.75-4.0 GPA).
VIP cards have been presented to 132 junior high and senior high students for the second nine weeks. The VIP card entitles students to varying rewards for their efforts and productivity. Students with VIP cards will be included in a drawing for a boombox stereo and treated to a pizza party during school. Plans also are being discussed to allow VIPs into a home high school basketball game in December and to recognize them at half-time.
"We've had an awesome first nine weeks," said Curt R. Graves, high school principal. "The cross country team qualified for state, our junior high and senior high school football teams won a lot of games, our band performed well at the state fair, the agricultural education program has done well in various activities, and our students are performing well academically."
According to Graves, the excellence at Goessel can be attributed to parents and teachers.
