Goessel Threshing Days approaching fast

'Let Us Entertain and Educate You' is the theme for the 29th annual Goessel Threshing Days to be held from Aug. 2 through Aug. 4.

The Mennonite Heritage Museum and the Wheat Heritage Engine Club are planning a weekend full of entertainment and education from musical groups to storytellers. Ethnic food will be served both days.

Tours of the museum complex, which consists of eight buildings, will be available. Six historic buildings from the community have been moved to the museum for preservation and restoration. A variety of demonstrations will be available inside the Friesen House on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Other demonstrations such as churning butter, washing clothes, apple paring, and corn shelling will be scattered throughout the grounds.

New this year is a wide variety of children's activities, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday afternoon, including Uncle Milt's shed — children's make-it and take-it games and crafts. There will also be different contests for all ages and skill level, including cow chip throwing contest, watermelon seed spitting contest, eggs in the apron race/obstacle course, apple paring contest, and spoolkje, a family favorite for many in the Goessel community.

More than 100 exhibitors from a seven-state area are expected to display and demonstrate antique equipment related to farming during the past century. Each year a specific type of equipment is featured. This year's feature is the Red Power Roundup of the Kansas Chapter #3 of the International Harvester Collectors Club featuring I.H.C.

Threshing Days buttons good for admission the entire weekend are $5.00 a person for ages 12 and up. Buttons purchased at local businesses in Goessel before Aug. 1 will be $4 each.
