Goessel Threshing Days is this weekend
The 34th annual Country Threshing Days is Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Goessel.
"Celebrating Our Heritage" is the theme again this year which celebrates the Mennonite heritage.
Bringing the famous Turkey Red Winter Wheat from Russia, the early pioneers also brought their faith and legacy which is demonstrated at this festival.
Pioneer farming and homemaking demonstrations can be seen beginning Friday evening.
A parade at 10 a.m. Saturday will be on Main Street.
Giant steam engines, prairie tractors, and a team of horses will provide demonstrations in a field with wheat being thrashed from stalks and ground into flour for authentic zwiebach. Sawmill and blacksmithing demonstrations also will be available.
A Low German meal and homemade ice cream will be served.
Children can enjoy a petting zoo and "make it, take it" crafts at Uncle Milt's Shed.
Tour the Mennonite Museum Complex which includes the Friesen house, Schroeder barn, and Turkey Red Wheat Palace.
A new attraction this year is a tethered hot air balloon that will be available for rides Friday and Saturday evening, weather permitting.
Admission buttons are $4 in advance and $5 at the gate which are good for all three days. Children 12 and under are free.
Special entertainment is planned Friday evening, and Saturday afternoon and evening. A worship service will be Sunday morning followed by an antique swap meet.
