Goessel to present Bye, bye, Birdie

Goessel High School Department of Music will present "Bye, Bye Birdie" Friday and Saturday under the direction of Greg Bontrager.

The story centers on Albert J. Peterson (Kyle Unruh), a man hoping to make his fortune and get the girl who just happens to be his secretary, Rosie (Brittany Voth), by promoting the big send-off for a newly drafted pop star named Conrad Birdie (Nathan Amstutz).

The story unfolds as Albert, Rose, and Conrad invade the quiet lives of the Macafee family (Kellen Jenkins, Janessa Wedel, Brett Goerzen) while Albert's domineering mother, (Sara Unruh), attempts to keep Albert from his true love.

In the end their big city ways are transformed into a simpler way of life. All members of the 67 voice high school choir will be involved in some aspect by portraying star-struck teenagers and their "fed-up" parents.

Some of the songs are: "Put on a Happy Face," "The Telephone Song," "One Boy, Honestly Sincere," "Ed Sullivan," "One Last Kiss," "A lot of livin' to do," and "Rosie."
