Goessel volleyball to face Peabody

Goessel High School volleyball team travels to Peabody on Tuesday for league matches with the Warriors of Peabody-Burns and the Warriors of Berean Academy.
After playing some of the top teams in the league this past week, the Bluebirds hope to bring home two wins in order to keep their record in the top half of the Heart of America League.
The week's contests brought the Bluebirds' record to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.
Goessel lost to Moundridge, 25-16, 25-20, at Brookville Sept. 12, but defeated Ell Saline, 25-17, 26-24.
Kory Hiebert led with 13 kills and 17 blocks, Courtney Berkholz led with eight digs, and Katie Flaming had 16 assists with ten-of-ten serving.
"The girls played well against Moundridge, but missed eight serves," said Coach Crysta Guhr.
Moundridge is one of the top volleyball teams in the state in all classes.
On Saturday at Tescott, the Bluebirds took third place out of eight schools as they won their pool but lost to Wilson in the semi-final match.
Goessel defeated Lucas Luray, 25-18, 25-6; the home team Tescott, 25-7, 25-9; and Ell Saline, 25-19, 25-14. In the semi final match Wilson defeated the Bluebirds, 25-16, 25-22.
Ell Saline was Goessel's opponent for the third time this week and the Bluebirds rebounded to win again 25-11, 25-14 and took home third place out of eight schools.
Kory Hiebert led in blocks, digs and kills with 29, 40, and 16 respectively. Katie Flaming earned 49 assists, Courtney Berkholz was 98 percent serving with nine aces and Rinda Duerksen had eight aces with 95 percent serving.
