The Goessel golf team started the season in the cold wind April 2 at Herington with a third place finish for the four-man team. Jeremy Miller, Zac Church, Ben Schmidt and Kent Peters finished third in the four-man team with Tyler Huntley and Dustin Spoonemore contributing to the varsity scores.
On Friday, Goessel competed at Hillsboro. The three most experienced players were involved in a music contest, and that allowed some players to get their first experience with varsity golf. Four juniors led the team. Huntley scored 95; Peters, 97; Spoonemore, 103; and Kelcy Voth, 116. Sophomore Jeremy Voth scored 116 in his first varsity meet, and freshman Jake Unruh shot 128 in his first competition.
With 11 teams competing, Coach Kemling was "pleased with the seventh place finish of the four-man team and an eighth place finish for the six-man team."
"The players responded well to their first or second varsity meet," said Kemling.
Goessel plays at Council Grove on April 11.
"The best is yet to come for this season," Kemling said.
