Golfers return four letter winners

Four varsity players, including one letter-winner, are back this year for the Hillsboro High School boys' golf team.

Twelve guys are out for this year's team, which is a few more than last year, according to head coach Scott O'Hare. That includes two seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and three freshmen.

This year's seniors are Billy Winegarner, who was on the team last year, and newcomer Alex Blecha.

The returning varsity players are Winegarner, Randy Klassen, Jordan Allen, and Lance Bartel.

O'Hare hopes to improve upon last year's record, and he plans to do that with the experience of Winegarner and the skills of freshman Andrew Bina.

Bina will probably take the team's No. 1 spot, O'Hare said.

The team's first day on the golf course was on Monday, thanks to spring break and bad weather, so they haven't had much time outside as a team. But the players have been working on their games on an individual basis, the coach said.

O'Hare anticipates that Hesston and Wichita Collegiate will again be tough competitors as they are each year.

The Trojans open their season on Tuesday at Herington.
