Good signs all around

Red ribbons — they've been everywhere the past couple months.

Not the small decorative ones you might use to trim a jacket or decorate your house. But the large ones, with a bow smack-dab in the middle — those have been cropping up all over town.

Why is that such a good thing? Because these ribbons are part of ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new Hillsboro businesses.

From all of these indications, the Hillsboro economy is faring well.

We've seen quite a few ribbon-cutting ceremonies lately, from the new Daylight Donuts store to Mary's Mats and More to the new Fast Realty.

And next month, we'll see one more at the new furniture store on South Main.

The new furniture store, run by a Marysville resident, fills a big empty storefront in the downtown business district.

All of these events are encouraging signs. They say that even though we live in a small town, we've got many of the luxuries of a bigger one.

We don't just have grocery stores. We have a place to buy that new bedroom suite. Or have a photograph professionally framed.

Now we just need somebody to fill that spot south of the hardware store.
