Grants available for children s groups

Newton Community & Health Care Foundation recently announced a new source of funding for children's organizations in the greater Newton area.

The "Newton Kids FUNd," created by $13,300 in proceeds from the 2004 Great Newton Derby Duck Race, represented a partnership between the foundation, several Newton businesses, and more than a dozen youth organizations to conduct a successful fund-raising event in September 2004 to benefit the communities' children.

Any tax-exempt charitable organization that serves children in the greater Newton area is eligible to apply for a maximum grant of $2,000.

"The foundation board of trustees placed a limit on the size of the grant so that more organizations could participate in this first year," explained Tom Adrian, board chairman.

Grant applications are available by contacting the foundation office, (316) 804-6006, by going to the foundation website, www.nchf.org, or by contacting Delores Dalke, board member, at (620) 947-2321.

March 15 is the deadline for submitting completed grant applications. A special selection committee will review the applications and awards will be made before the end of May.
