Greenhaw brings home first place medal

Staff writer

Senior wrestler Carson Greenhaw took first place in the 145-pound weight class division to lead the Trojans to a fourth place finish at the Halstead Invitational Wrestling Tournament held last Friday and Saturday in Halstead. From a pool of 21 teams, Hillsboro scored 122 points behind Circle who placed third with 130.5 points, El Dorado, second, with 135, and number one Lincoln with 168 points.

"We did a pretty good job," said Head Coach Corey Burton, "considering that there were 21 schools there, and we placed seven wrestlers in the top six."

Greenhaw was the only Trojan to take home a first place medal with a 3-0 record in the tournament.

"Carson did a good job by getting first place in that weight class," Burton said.

Other wrestlers placing in the tournament were Wade Sorensen, in the 189-pound weight class, second place with a 3-1 record; Bri Ratzlaff, in the 103-pound weight class, third place with a 3-1 record; Danny Yoder, in the 125-pound weight class, third place with a 4-1 record; Ronnie Davis, in the 215-pound weight class, third place with a 4-1 record; James Bina, in the 152-pound weight class, fifth place with a 4-2 record; and Ryan Janzen, in the 119-pound weight class, sixth place with a 1-3 record.

"I feel we are headed in the right direction," Burton said. "February is our goal. We need to improve on the little things," he said.

The Hillsboro wrestlers will face Lincoln and Lyons in Lincoln Thursday night and compete in the Eureka tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

"Lincoln has a full team, and it's going to be tough," Burton said. "Lyons numbers are way down."

The Eureka tournament on Saturday is a first for the Trojans.

"This will be a tough tournament for us," he said. "There will be quite a few teams there for a one-day tournament, about 16 teams. It's going to be tough."
