Grocery store begins remodeling
Work started on Monday for a remodeling project taking place at Dale's Supermarket.
While Vogt's IGA gets busy on its new building site by the highway, Dale's is expanding into the back of the Schaeffler Building, which store owners Dale and Melanie Frantz bought in January.
Dale's is expanding into the back of the space currently occupied by Nancy's Fashions and previously occupied by Total Image II. Nancy's will now stretch across the storefront, Franz said. He estimates that he's using about 40 percent of the back of that space.
Nancy's is closed this week to accommodate the workers.
Although workers had been doing demolition and cleaning work before this week, the official construction didn't start until Monday, he said. Local company Jantz Construction is working on the project.
Franz's main goal in expanding is to make room for more freezers and coolers. More and more food items in today's market are frozen, he said, so he's doubling his freezer space. Dry grocery items will also be stored in that zone, and other store items will be re-arranged.
The store will stay open while all the construction is being done, Franz said. He hopes that the project will be completed by June.s
