Harrier boys take third at Ellsworth
Hillsboro High School cross country boys took third at the Ellsworth meet Oct. 5 out of a field of 11 teams. The girls placed eighth.
"All the kids should feel good about how hard they ran," Coach Stuart Holmes said. Ellsworth's course is extremely hilly and almost all of our runners ran within a minute or a little more of their fastest time."
Sean Leihy led the team with a 10th place finished in a time of 18:42. Teammate Kody Borg finished 11th with a time of 18:43 and Nate Holmes, 15th with a time of 18:52. Each runner received a medal.
Other varsity runners competing at the meet were Cody McMillen who finished 24th with a time of 19:12, Karl Magnuson, 27th with a time of 19:25; Daniel Bookless, 29th with a time of 19:30; and Robert Jost, 45th with a time of 20:46.
"A third place finish was good considering the tough competition," Holmes said.
"Cody has done a super job and has been our fourth or fifth runner," Holmes said. "His 24th place finish was excellent for such a young runner."
In the junior varsity race, Zach Magnuson placed 18th with a time of 22:30.
Other runners included Jon Janzen who placed 22nd with a time of 22:44, Clint Schneider, 32nd with a time of 23:43; Alex Jost, 33rd with a time of 23:45; Tyrel Blecha, 39th with a time of 24:29; Lance Kliewer, 44th with a time of 26:09; and Zach Luthi, 46th with a time of 26:22.
In the girls' cross country race, Elissa Richert placed 41st with a time of 15:18, Hannah Marsh, 42nd with a time of 15:43; Greta Kliewer, 44th with a time of 16:10; Jacque Fisher, 46th with a time of 16:19; Meagan Peachey, 51st with a time of 18:21; and Megan McCarty, 52nd with a time of 20:32.
Up next for the Trojans harriers is the league meet at 4 p.m. today hosted by Hillsboro at the Cottonwood Point Nature Trail at Marion Reservoir.
"We're looking forward to league here," Holmes said. "With all our varsity runners running well this year, our depth will be the key as we head into the final races of the season."
