Harriers are fifth in league
The boys' and girls' cross country teams both finished fifth in the Heart of America League cross country race held in Carey Park in Hutchinson.
Peter Goerzen led the Bluebird boys followed by Lance Hiebert, Kent Peters, Evan Fast, and Jeremy Voth.
The girls were led by freshman Jennifer Schmidt and followed by Linessa Duerksen and Theresia Hoelzl.
None of the Goessel runners placed in the top 10 to earn medals. There are 14 teams in the league, but only nine participated in this cross country event. Duerksen was on crutches Sunday with an ankle injury, and Voth fought a fever the night before the race which hurt their chances of running their best.
The Bluebirds will run in the 1A-2A regional meet on Saturday. The event is at the RAFT Recreation Ranch near Wichita and will include 23 schools with all of the HOAL teams at the regional. The girls will compete at 3 p.m., and the boys will start at 3:30 p.m.
