Harry Decker

Harry Decker, 97, of rural Durham died Aug. 11, 2003, in rural Durham.

Born July 30, 1906, at rural Durham, he was the son of Tobias and Mary (Unruh) Decker.

On May 21, 1927, at rural Durham, he married Susie Smith. She is deceased.

On March 6, 1976, at Freeman, S.D., he married Verna Johnson Tiesen. She survives.

He was a farmer and a member of Central Heights Mennonite Church in rural Durham.

He was preceded in death by his first wife; an infant daughter, Norma Ruth Decker; brothers, Carl, LeRoy, and Andrew; and sisters, Emma, Lena, Elsie, Gertrude, and Clara.

Survivors include his wife, Verna, of the home; sons, Jonathan Decker of rural Durham, Earl Decker of Newton, and Merlin Decker of Hillsboro; daughters, Jaraine Redger of Newton and Carolyn Duggan of Hutchinson; brothers, Elmer Decker of Hesston and Alva Decker of Newton; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Central Heights Mennonite Church in rural Durham with Revs. Melvin Graber and Chris Decker officiating. Burial will be at Peace Valley Cemetery, rural Durham.

The family will receive guests from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hillsboro Memorial Chapel.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
