Residents celebrated National Hospital and Nursing Home Week this past week.

They enjoyed the usual exercise activities on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.

Hillsboro librarian Cathy Fish was here Monday morning to read and visit.

Later that morning several residents, including Alma Rempel, Bob Brunner, Bonnie Crandall, Richard Noone, Agnes Peters, Ruth Goentzel, and Harold Jost, enjoyed a van trip to Council Grove. They were accompanied by Adella Katz, Selma Ingram, and Lori Smithhart. Adella treated the residents to ice cream cones while in Council Grove. Along the way, they visited Council Grove Lake, stopped at a farm near Lost Springs, and even visited one of the largest hog farms in the area. They enjoyed a picnic lunch at the Burdick Park.

On Tuesday, card players Ed and Alice Winter, Spud Pschigoda, Leland Kaiser, and risk manager/RT Ken Johnson gathered in the TV room for pitch with CEO Mike Ryan. That afternoon residents competed in a spelling bee.

The residents' picnic was held Wednesday in the courtyard. Everyone enjoyed hot dogs, baked beans, potato salad, chips, pop, and ice cream bars. After lunch, residents played bingo.

Men's bingo was on the schedule for Thursday morning. Those playing included Spud Pschigoda, Richard Noone, Bob Bruner, Harold Jost, Ed Winter, Leland Kaiser, and Ernie Unruh. Three others join the group on a regular basis. They are Gordon Eager, John Rempel, and Marvin Rediker.

In the afternoon, residents enjoyed "The Andy Griffith Show." This was a popular activity and more residents kept showing up during the show.

The women's sewing club met Friday morning. Alice Winter, Bonnie Crandall, Ruth Goentzel, Anna Enns, Fern Blackferd, Clara Bartel, Leona Funk, Cleo Olsen, Alma Rempel, Virginia Frick, and Anna Smith continued working on lap blankets.

In the afternoon, residents enjoyed chocolate chip cookies while playing games to keep their minds alert.
