HHS boys advance in sub-state

The Hillsboro High School boys advanced to the second round of the KSHSAA 3A sub-state tournament Monday after defeating Hutch Trinity, 54-36.

The Trojans will face Southeast of Saline at 7:30 p.m. today at Robert C. Brown Gymnasium. If they win, they will play the winner of the Hesston-Halstead game for the sub-state championship at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.

Tyler Peachey was high scorer Monday night with 16 points, followed by Eric Weinbrenner with 12, and Caleb Marsh with 11.

Other scorers were Kyle Jilka with five, Derek Hamm and Daniel Deckert with four each, and Toby Berg with two.

The Trojans shot 57 percent from the floor making 16 of 28 two-pointers.

The team has an 18-3 record.
